Way back, what feels like a lifetime ago, I had a small custom perfumery in Boston. (In the long, long ago of the early nineties). Back then, I made perfumes by hand just like I do now but I also made solid perfumes for my clients. I certainly thought that they were fun but I never really thought about them as anything more than a novelty. So, flash forward oh a dozen years or so to now and the decision to launch solids for our special Holiday offering for 2010; WOW! how times have changed and the love of the solid has blossomed in our absence from the genre. Besides the fact that the solids are exciting and so, so cute for stocking-stuffers / to hang on the tree like an ornament, they are red-hot as a fragrance item!
I really am amazed at the response to our new solid perfumes! I knew they would be fabulous because they are some of our best selling scents and in those cute little hat boxes (!?!), how could we go wrong. But they have just been flying out the door (we’re already on our third or fourth run of production on them) and we’ve only just begun. Maybe it’s the lovely, light but rich (the added beeswax note?) scent that makes them so irresistible or that they are so perfect to drop into your bag and have them where ever you go. Even on a plane. All I know is that I’m in love and I’m so happy to say that I am not the only one. We’re even in the planning stages to release another five solid perfumes in the Spring. Hmmm….
I think it’s time to do a little draw to share the love. Great idea, huh? 🙂 Up for grabs are 6 solids: 1 Winter White, 1 Tubereuse, 1 Piment et Chocolat, 1 Sampsuchinon, 1 Cafe Noir, and 1 Cimabue. This way we’ll have six lucky winners. * To enter the draw, please leave a comment about which scents you would like to see in solid format as we expand the collection. I’d love to know your thoughts. The drawing is open until Tuesday, December 14 at 8 am MST. Good Luck everyone!
ps: You know, people always ask me what *my personal faves* are, so I thought that I would chime in with my two (s)cents (yuk yuk yuk: silly pun intended). I gotta say it’s a tie between Tubereuse and Cafe Noir for me (although, I do carry Sampsuchinon around in my handbag, so I guess that’s three). Oh and I LOVE the box for Winter White; the quilting is so fabulous and retro that it has to get an honorable mention.
I’d love to see one of the figs in a solid!
Hi, Lindsey~ 🙂 Awesome! Good luck in the draw… and sorry I missed you at the DAM trunk show. Hope to see you, soon!
I love Mahjoun, so I’d definitely have to put that at the top of my list. Cathedral and Indochine as well… Maybe Lili? I’m wondering how it would be with the beeswax note….
Thank you, Anita! Mahjoun is already high in the running… I love your other ideas. Good luck in the draw!
Fantastic, and thanks! I’m crossing my fingers on Mahjoun solid. 😉
Hi, Anita! another vote for Mahjoun! 🙂 good luck in the draw!
I was going to say Mahjoun as well! I just love that one.
Hello, Elisa~ Thank you for your love of Mahjoun!! Good luck in the draw and Happy Holidays to you~~~
Oooh, thanks for the opportunity! I’d like to see an incense scent, like frankincense & myrhh. Of course, Inner Sanctum is my favorite, and I’d love to see it in any incarnation. 🙂
Hi, Rosarita~ Thank you for this and your love for Inner Sanctum (I love it, too!) Happy Holidays and good luck in the draw~
Definitely Mahjoun! Pleeaaassseee! 🙂
🙂 hee hee : I love your comment, Dempeaux! Good luck in the draw and Happy Holidays to you~~~
I know Bois de Chocolat is on its way out, so I won’t ask for that but instead say perhaps Parfum de Grasse? Or is the beeswax note too repetitive?
Anyway, I love solids and would love to try one of these! (I need to find my sample of Cafe Noir…)
Hi, Judith! Happy Holidays!! Thank you for your comment; looks like you are not alone in your love for Parfum de Grasse as a solid. I don’t think that the beeswax note would be redundant; it would enhance the jasmine and orange blossom even more. I see many experiments in my future! 🙂 Good luck in the draw~~~
Dawn, I’ve got to mention my favorite roses: American Beauty, Rose Vert & Parfum de Grasse. I’d love to see solids of any of these!
I carry the solids of Tubereuse & Sampsuchinon around with me in my purse too.
I’m so glad the solids are getting lots of lovin’.
Hi, Christine! 🙂 Oh yum! Thank you for the comment and for lovin’ the solids! Hope you and Cindy are having a GREAT Holiday season so far and lots of ❤ to you~ Good luck in the draw!
I think Violetta di Murano would be beautiful as a solid. I am still on a violet kick, as I think I have been for a few years off and on now, and it would make a lovely spring addition.
Hi, Jennifer~ Mmmm..violet! (I’m working on a new violet right now, too). Love your comment and thank you! Good luck in the draw and Happy Holidays!
Wow, this is a tough call. I own so many of your scents in EDP or oil versions that it’s really hard to choose. I will say that in my personal experience, solids often don’t last long on me, especially the fresh, citrus or light floral types. They are usually gorgeous but fleeting. I find that it’s the fragrances that are spicy oriental and incense solids that persist on my skin.
So I guess my votes for new solids (in addition to the great ones you’ve already chosen from your collection) would be Oeillet Rouges (only my favorite carnation EVER!), Cathedral, and Kohl Gris. Runner ups would be Tamarind/Paprika (except I think it’s called something else now!), and – hoping for some fresh solid scents that last on my skin – the lovely Celadon and Special Formula X. I could go on – I own at least 25 others!- but I think I’ll end it here. So happy to hear that these are flying off the Studio shelves! Happy holidays!
Hi, Lisa!! 🙂 It’s great to see you here and thank yo for the comments! I think that we will be looking at adding new incense solids in the Fall and I love your fresh ideas & Oeillets Rouges, too. Thank you! Good luck in the draw and have a wonderful Sunday!! (Happy Holidays, too!)
Mahjoun is one of my favorite gourmand scents of all time quite simply yummy!!
Hi, Taffynfontana~ Mahjoun is definitely getting a lot of love! Thank you for your comment and good luck in the draw!
Hi Dawn – I continue to love Memory and Desire and think that would be a fabulous solid! Hope all is going well and I look forward to returning to Boulder again son!
Happy Holidays!
Hello, Josephine! It’s great to see you here! Yes, M& D would be fun in a solid… 🙂 I just love reading everyone’s ideas on this! Good luck in the draw and YES! I can’t wait for you to get back to Boulder for another visit!
Hmmm, the only scent I’ve smelled thus far is Musk eau Natural, but I REALLY like it, so how about that? I’d also put in a vote for a solid version of your new Holiday Collection Box.
Hello, Dionne! WOW there have been so many excellent ideas!! Mary, Amber and I are going to have a lot to discuss! Thank you for your comment and good luck in the draw!! Oh yes, and Happy Holidays!
This is such a difficult choice. 🙂 I mean choosing from your line?
Btw, I’m very happy that Piment and Chocolat got the solid choice (and I’m wondering at the moment why in the world I didn’t order it)…
My choice for spring solid – Blue Hyacinth. And I’m with Lindsey – fig would be great!
Hello, Ines! Happy Holidays!! I know that you would love the P et C solid – it’s wonderful! Thank you for your thoughts and good luck in the draw! 🙂
You know that I love solid perfumes!
I also have hopes — to see one of the Perfumed Court frags in a solid. They seem like they would really lend themselves to the medium. Especially one of the Mme du Barry ones.
There are a lot of 18th Cent. fans out there.
🙂 Ok, lucy… I hadn’t thought of the Perfumed Court perfumes before. I’ll have to make some experiments! Have a wonderful Sunday and good luck in the draw!
Oeillets Rouge, please! It’s what brought my attention to your line…searching for a carnation. Love it/
🙂 Hi, Cynthia~ Hmm.. this is another vote for Oeillets Rouges. Thank you for letting me know it’s your fave and good luck in the draw!
oooh , I almost ordered the Sampsuchinin solid…
I’d love to see
Nourouz
Twelfth Night
December
Parfum de Grasse….
🙂 Hi Carol! I will send a sample of the Sampsuchinon solid so you can try it. 🙂 I love your choices and thank you for the feedback. Good luck in the draw and Happy, Happy Holidays!!
Hi Dawn,
Back in the ’70s (and still in my, um… childhood), Avon made a series of soliflore perfume sachets. They were among my early introduction to the world of fragrances. I loved those and think that your soliflores would also make lovely solids to wear alone or blend/layer.
I must also cast my vote with Majoun. For someone who rarely favors gourmands, this is among my favorites, overall because it’s not just yummy, it’s beautiful.
Would love to win the Cafe Noir for my DH….
Hi, AnnYM~
I think I had some of those Avon solids (I know I got a “Sweet Honesty” solid in a “gingerman” shape for Christmas one year. I think it’s STILL pinned to my childhood stocking) so I remember them, too. That might be a fun thing to do… sets of something like that. Thank you for your vote for Mahjoun and good luck in the draw!
Forgot to mention as well, since you’ve already got Cafe Noir made into a solid that the entire PC collection should be made into solids. (I have the mini box.) My favorite is PdL, but really, it’s a beautiful collection.
🙂 Thank you, AnnyM! You said just what Mary, my studio manager, said about the solids: go, PC collection! She loves them, too!
Oh, I would LOVE Parfum de Grasse in a solid…
Hi, Gisela~ 🙂 There’s some serious love for Parfum de Grasse (one of my first perfume loves, myself). It’s so great to see! Thank you and good luck in the draw!!
I would like to see your Michelangelo in solid form 🙂
love, Bellatrix
🙂 Thank you Bellatrix! I love everyone’s thoughts on this project … it’s all so interesting!! Good luck in the draw and Happy Holidays!!
Ashram! I adore this scent. I have only sampled a few of your fragrances, but I can tell you Ashram is an all-time favorite.
Well, Thank you, Queen Cupcake ; and Ashram thanks you, too! 🙂 Happy Holidays to you and good luck in the draw!
I would love to enter the drawing! I think Jitterbug would be great in solid form! Sara
Hi Sara! mmm…jitterbug solid! I hope all is great with you and that you are having a wonderful season. Best of luck in the draw! 🙂
Dear Dawn,
thank you for hosting such a great giveaway! Happy Holidays!
I will join voices to those who suggest Mahjoun, but I will also suggest LuckyClover, I think it would be lovely with an added beeswax note, I always crave a little more honey in it.
I think Butterflies Nectar would be lovely as a solid as well.
Hello, Olga! 🙂 Thank you for checking out the blog and your awesome comments! It’s my pleasure to do the draw ( It’s fun for me!) Happy Holidays to you as well and good luck in the draw~
